We are a small team of sole traders based in Central Scotland, we are friends and we love working in the woods. We like to work at a human scale, and with respect to both nature and people.

When it comes to forestry, we believe in working in a way that makes the most of the productive potential of a woodland whilst also respecting its habitat potential. We love timber - the ancient miracle material that has taken on new  meaning in this age of climate crisis. But a woodland is more than just timber. It is a complex, living system that animals, plants and fungi call home. As such, it should be managed to achieve diversity of species and structure in addition to high-quality timber. Therein lies sustainability.

Our mission is to promote small-scale woodland management and the local use of timber, for both nature and people.

Indigenous Forestry is fully insured and each team member will be suitably qualified for the operation undertaken, with a collective multitude of NPTC and Lantra Certificates of Competence.

Indigenous Forestry is led by Amos Higgins. Amos holds a Bsc(hons) in Ecology and a NVQ level 2 in Trees and Timber. Having had roles in Forestry & Land Scotland and NatureScot as well as in community woodland management and ecological surveying, Amos developed Indigenous Forestry to reflect a deep passion for working closely with nature and in a way that fosters a healthy, reciprocal relationship with our environment.

The symbol of the singing wood warbler has been chosen to symbolise listening to the messages nature sends us, ever present if only we have the ears to hear them.
